(Aves, 2023) Yucedag, Fatih; Sevil, Ergun; Cevik, Ismail; Sezgin, Arife; Kulaksiz, Betul Deger
Background: This study is the first to have been assessing epistaxis cases in respect of the geographic and seasonal variations in 2 distinct cities 900 km apart in 2 different regions of Turkey, whereas most studies in the literature about this entity had evaluated patients in the same residential area. The purpose of this study was to compare seasonal and regional variations in the presentations of patients with epistaxis in the regions of Central Anatolia, which has a continental climate, and the Eastern Black Sea, which has a marine climate. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted in Karaman Training and Research Hospital and Trabzon Kanuni Training and Research Hospital throughout 2019, a total of 2141 cases (Central Anatolia: 1247; Eastern Black Sea: 894). The data of patients who presented with epistaxis were scanned retrospectively from patient records. Weather parameter data on the day of admission to hospital were obtained from the Regional Institutes of Meteorology. Results: The number of cases (1247 vs. 894, P <.001) was significantly higher in the Central Anatolia than in the Eastern Black Sea, in which higher results of mean humidity, air pressure, rainfall, and wind speed were recorded. A weak positive correlation was determined between the number of cases and mean temperature (r = 0.397) and a weak negative correlation between the number of cases and air pressure (r = -0.261) and rainfall (r = -0.288). Conclusion: The study results suggest that the meteorological parameters of mean temperature, rainfall, and air pressure could have a significant effect on epistaxis.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of changes in adrenal, and thyroid functions on the prognosis of Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective evaluation that included COVID-19 patients requiring ICU admission. Serum cortisol, adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (fT4) and triiodothyronine (fT3) levels were measured on admission and two more times during the hospitalization. Routine biochemistry, hemogram, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, fibrinogen and D-dimer levels were also measured, along with hormones. All-cause mortality during ICU stay, inotropic drug and mechanical ventilation needs, and duration of hospitalization were recorded for each patient. Euthyroid sick syndrome (ESS) and hypocortisolism rates were determined. Deceased and surviving patients were compared in terms of hormone values, and logistic regression to determine independent associates of mortality was performed. Results: Overall, 124 patients (58% male, mean age 70.7 +/- 11.3 years) were included. During the ICU stay, both fT3 and fT4, but not TSH, showed a statistically significant decrease compared to admission values. Serum cortisol and ACTH values increased compared to admission values, but this increase was not significant. ESS was present in 89.5% of the patients. Two-thirds of the patients died in ICU. Serum fT3 values were significantly lower among decedents compared to survivors. Hypocortisolism was detected in 20.1% of the patients. Only the fT3 level could independently and significantly predict all-cause mortality. Conclusion: ESS was almost universal among critically ill COVID-19 patients. Serum fT3, but not other thyroid or adrenal hormones, could significantly predict all-cause mortality.

Chris jenks' subculture approach and tofaş youth: a research on karaman province
(Anadolu Ilahiyat Akademisi, 2024) Açıkalın, Melek; Çakır, Mehmet
Among the recent industrial products, one of the most significant developments affecting societies and people has been the advances in the automotive industry. Automobiles have made it possible redefine the relationship between the individuals and society, transforming spaces according to their own needs. Spaces have contributed to the creation of a network of social relationships where users can communicate with several people simultaneously in the relationship between automobiles and people. Therefore, while automobiles have become a part of private life, it has also provided individuals with the opportunity to enter the public sphere. In this study, young people who view owning a bird series car as a way to distinguish themselves from others in society are considered as a subcultural group. The main purpose of this study is to provide a sociological explanation for young people who see owning a symbolic vehicle as a way of gaining social acceptance. In this direction, the data in the study, which was conducted in accordance with the phenomenology research design within the qualitative research tradition, the data were obtained through interviews with a total of 33 people, two of whom were female and 31 of whom were male, between the ages of 18-35, who own Bird Series vehicles. Interviews were conducted between December 2022 and April 2023, using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. The collected data was analysed descriptively using MAXQDA 22 software. The analysis and interpretation of the data is based on Chris Jenks' classification of cultural, reflexive, linguistic, and visual turns to explain the difference between the approaches to the concept of subculture in the modern and postmodern periods. The differences, characteristics, transforming aspects and existence strategies of young people who use Bird Series vehicles through the ownership of a symbolic vehicle and their practices of separation from the dominant culture were analyzed based on Chris Jenks' quadruple classification. The research found that young people value the relationships built around a symbolic vehicle more, as Bird Series vehicles fulfil their need for a sense of belonging to a group.

(Konya Teknik Univ, 2024) Ates Sonmezoglu, Ozlem; Kamo, Alaa; Bozkaya, Busra; Sonmezoglu, Savas
Wheat is the main food source for key nutrients in humans, hence any new research into boosting wheat quality and yield is vital. Recent advances in nanotechnology have made nanoparticles appropriate for use in agriculture. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles have a considerable impact on plants, but further research is required to make them commercially feasible. Herein, we evaluate the impact of TiO2 nanoparticles not only on the germination of seeds but also on the growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) through soil application. The experimental findings reveal that TiO2 treatment at concentrations up to 2000 mg/L in seeds planted in Petri dishes has a favorable effect on wheat root and shoot length, whereas it has a suppressive effect at higher concentrations. As expected, a similar trend is observed for plant shoot length in the soil treatment with beneficial effects recorded up to a dosage of 60 mg/kg. In conclusion, the beneficial effects of TiO2 nanoparticles on seed germination and plant growth may have a big financial impact on horticulture, agriculture, and the energy industry-particularly on the manufacturing of biofuels.

Effect of basalt fiber aspect ratıo on mechanical and workability properties of self-compacting concrete
(Konya Teknik Univ, 2024) Uzun, Mehmet; Arslan, Mehmet Akif
Self-compacting concrete (SCC) has become widely used thanks to its various advantages. SCC is also fiber reinforced, similar to conventional concrete. However, studies on SCC with fiber addition are limited. In this study, the effect of basalt fibers at different aspect ratios on the mechanical and workability properties of SCC was examined. Slump flow, V-funnel, compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strength tests were carried out within this study. Results showed that, although increasing the aspect ratio causes improvement in the workability properties of concrete, workability decreases compared to the reference SCC. Increases were observed in flexural and splitting tensile strengths with increasing aspect ratio. The compressive strength of the specimens that contains BF decreased compared to the reference sample because of the agglomeration effect. The results obtained were examined and discussed in detail.

The Investigation of The Metabolic Effect of High Salt or Western Diet During Pregnancy and Lactation on Rat Dams and Postnatal Offspring Rats
(Marmara Univ, Inst Health Sciences, 2024) Öztürk, Meryem Elif; Yabancı Ayhan, Nurcan
Objective: This study investigated the metabolic effect of maternal high -salt and western low -protein diets during pregnancy and lactation periods on rat dams and adult offspring. Method: Female rat dams were divided into four groups and fed with a 1% high salt diet, a Western low -protein diet (high fat and sugar and low protein), or a 1% high salt/western low -protein combined diet (WS) during pregnancy and lactation. Afterward, 95 female and male offspring were divided into groups and fed with those diets until 18 weeks of age. The mothers' and offspring rats' body weights and chow intake were recorded periodically. At 18 weeks of age, blood samples were collected from the offspring. Their blood lipid profiles, leptin, and insulin levels were analyzed. Results: Rat dams had similar weight changes during pregnancy and lactation. Rats exposed to the Western low -protein and WS diet during pregnancy, lactation, and/or postweaning had lower body weights than the control group. Male adult offspring from control dams and fed high salt were heavier and had higher LDL cholesterol than controls. However, rats from high salt dams and fed a high salt diet had lower body weights than the control group. Plasma insulin and leptin of male rats were not significantly different. Female offspring fed Western low -protein and WS diet in the fetal period or in early childhood had significantly low insulin. However, female rats exposed to Western lowprotein and WS diets during pregnancy, lactation, and postweaning had similar insulin to control rats. Conclusion: Maintaining the maternal diet after lactation prevents the detrimental effect of a low -protein diet on insulin levels. Anti -obesity mechanism may develop in offspring exposed to a high salt diet during the fetal period against salt intake in later life.

A descriptive study on literary translation in the context of eco-translatology
(Istanbul Univ, Fac Letters, 2024) Çakır, Nesibe Erkalan
The eco-translatology approach, in which the translator is at the center of the translation process and, accordingly, has the responsibility for the ecology of the target text, has recently become a topic of interest to researchers. In the eco-translation approach, the translation process not only highlights the ecological elements in the source text but also creates ecological awareness for the reader of the target text. The ecotranslatology approach was put forward by Chinese translation studies researchers Gengshen Hu and Youlan Tao to examine the act of translation from an ecological perspective. Therefore, this approach brings ecological elements to the forefront in the translation process and in this respect differs from other translation approaches. Therefore, this approach can be said to interpret translation in light of eco-holism, unlike various fields such as linguistics, literature, culture, communications, or art. The study aims to interpret literary translation in the context of the eco-translatology approach. In this context, I have first identified the simile expressions in Yashar Kemal's book, Y & imath;lan & imath; & Ouml;ld & uuml;rseler and I compared these simile expressions with their French translations in light of the eco-translatology approach. For the analysis, I've taken into account the following fundamental four principles Hu and Tao (2016) proposed within the framework of their approach: the principle of balance and harmony, the principle of multiple eco-integration, the principle of symbiosis and diversity, and the principle of translator responsibility. As a result of the analysis, the simile expressions in the source text are observed to have mostly been translated into French in accordance with the principles of eco-translatology.
