The relationship between oil prices and stock prices: A study of global airline companies
    (2025) Özmerdivanli, Arzu
The study aims to investigate the correlation between the stock prices of global airline companies and oil prices. To achieve the study objective, a panel data regression analysis was performed using monthly data for 2014 - 2023 of 20 airline companies operating on a global scale and with high market capitalisation. The study treated stock prices as the dependent variable, while oil prices were the independent variable. Exchange rates, interest rates, and stock market indices were included as control variables. At the end of the analysis, it was concluded that oil and exchange rates have a negative effect on airline stock prices, while stock market indices positively affect airline stock prices. In other respects, the study results also demonstrate that interest rates do not affect airline companies' stock prices. Given the results obtained in the study, it can be stated that airline companies can increase their stock prices by hedging against oil and exchange rate fluctuations, and investors should invest in stocks considering factors such as oil prices and exchange rates. © 2025 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
