Özet
Gideon Toury, çeviribilim alanındaki önemli kuramcılardan biridir. Çeviri eylemine betimleyici bir bakış açısıyla yaklaşan Toury, çeviriyi tamamen erek odaklı bir süreç olarak ele almıştır. Betimleyici Çeviri Kuramı olarak adlandırılan yöntem(bilim)sel yaklaşımıyla genel bir çeviri kuramı oluşturmayı hedefleyen Toury, sürecin asıl öznesi olan çevirmenin kararlarına işaret eden ölçütleri belirleyip norm adı altında sınıflandırmıştır. Çevirmenin sürece başlamadan önce ve süreç boyunca aldığı kararları, davranışları yansıtan bu normlar çeviri metin üzerinden çeviri eyleminin ve çeviri sürecinin bir çeşit betimlemesidir. Çeviri sürecini yönlendiren normlar aynı zamanda bir eşdeğerlik olarak erek metnin kendi kültüründe yeterlilik veya kabul edilebilirlik kutuplarından hangisine daha yakın olduğunu da belirlemektedir. Böylece, erek metnin eşdeğer olarak hedef kültürde işlevini sağlayıp sağlayamadığı ortaya çıkmaktadır. Betimleyici ve erek odaklı bu kuram, farklı metin türleri çevirisinde gözlemlenebilmektedir. Özel alan çevirisi bağlamında düşünüldüğünde, bir özel alan metni olarak, felsefe metni çevirisinde de Betimleyici Çeviri Kuramı süreci kendini gösterebilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Toury’nin Betimleyici Çeviri Kuramı’nı ele almak ve bu kuramın yansımalarını Leibniz’in Monadoloji adlı eserinin Fransızcadan Türkçeye yapılan çevirisi üzerinden örneklendirerek göstermektir.
Gideon Toury is one of the important theorists in translation studies. Toury who approaches the act of translation from a descriptive perspective considered translation completely as a target-oriented process. Aiming to create a general translation theory with the (scientific) method which he called Descriptive Translation Theory, Toury determined some parameters and classified them in the name of norm that refer to the decisions of the translator who is the main subject of the process. These norms which reflect the decisions or behaviours of the translator, before and during the process, are a kind of the translation process and the act of translation description on the target text. As an equivalence, the norms guiding the translation process also determine to which poles of adequacy or acceptability the target text is closer in its own culture. Thus, it is revealed whether the target text can function as an equivalent in the target culture or not. This descriptive and target-oriented theory can be observed in the translation of different types of texts. When considered within the context of specialized translation, the process of Descriptive Translation Theory can also show itself in philosophical text translation as a specialized text. The objective of this study is to discuss Toury’s Descriptive Translation Theory and to illustrate its reflections by analysing the translation of Leibniz's Monadology from French into Turkish.
